Help Samsung Galaxy S3 mini short battery life.

Quimper

Lurker
Hello. My battery on my Samsung Galaxy S3 mini is discharging very quickly like 1% - 2% per minute even if i don't do anything with it. I run Jelly Bean 4.1.2. I have turned off everything from Google ( location , now , google+ auto-backup etc. ). I am using power-saving mode and only Wi-Fi is turned on. I've tryed factory data reset but the problem still persists. Can you please tell me how to fix my battery life ?

Hi

Welcome to the forums! :) Hopefully we can help.

A few questions:

Is that with the screen on or off?
Is mobile data on or off?
Has it always done this or is it a recent thing? If recent what changed?
Do you have poor phone reception where you are?
Do you know Anyone with the same phone so you can try another battery?

1.It doesn't matter if the screen is on or off , it's the same.
2. Mobile data is off.
3. It's just a recent thing ( like 2 months) and it only changed the battery life and a little bit of the performance.
4. If you mean the signal it's 100%
5. Yeah, I know someone.

Hi again

My guess is its a faulty battery. I would try another one as your next move. I can't think of any use of the phone which would normally drain the battery that fast ie flat in 2 hours - maybe navigating with Google maps using gps and data with the screen on full brightness but even then not that fast!

i had the same problem. the problem was the battery was swollen. If your battery was swollen, immediately stop use it and get the battery replacement. If you continue to use the phone while the battery was swollen. the battery will explode.

my battery is fine - i want to unlock my phone

Use an unlocking service or contact your carrier, or you might already be unlocked depending on where you got it, or maybe you mean unlock in a different way, in what do you mean by unlock?

14!!!!!! that is a lot of phones! I mean jail break my phone so i can use it internationally without roaming

14 was around March I have since gotten up to near twenty(I buy really old and really cheap device often cracked screen and none booting) , the jailbreak won't kill the sim lock put in place by carrier, for that you need network unlock code, which can be bought at places you given too you by your carrier, they often will if you been with them a while

there is an app named GalaxSim Unlock but it is not supported for Galaxy S3 mini yet.

I have a question. Is it illegal to unlock the phone or sim to use it international? can i get detected by the carrier?

i want to change my local carrier to Telia DK because Telia DK is better than Telenor DK

In Europe and not united states it is not...here in usa land of the free it is illegal with out carrier consent

My S3 mini has suddenly started draining the battery more quickly - it lasts half a day not a day & a half. I had a look at the battery & it didn't seem swollen, though it feels very slightly uneven on one side.

By removing the battery to check, I guess I've done a hard reset. I'll see if that changes things.

I find the thought of the battery exploding rather worrying. I haven't seen any warnings or news items about exploding phones! How often does it happen?

Looking at my battery usage, after the screen (37% at the moment) comes Media (18%) which seems to be mostly downloads. Mobile data is off. My usage hasn't changed much over the past month, so why has my battery drain doubled?

I have owned the phone for just over a year.

i had the same problem. the problem was the battery was swollen.

Yesterday I wrote Samsung:

My Galaxy III has been losing power, and when I removed the back to investigate, I found the battery was swollen, and that seems to be the cause of the malfunction. Today I took it to the Verizon store where I bought it. This store:

...
Verizon Wireless at Speedway
1927 E Speedway Blvd
Suite 101
Tucson , AZ 85719
(520) 326-8147

They did not offer to replace the battery for free. They were going to charge me for a new battery, but I left without buying one. Now I searched Google for "Galaxy III swollen battery", and I find that this is a widespread, widely reported problem with your batteries. I read this here:

(links removed since this is my first post)

That says you are offering free replacement for the battery. How can I get the free replacement battery? If I go to the Verizon store, they will try to charge me. I'd like a free replacement, please. Thank you.

... I've replied to Samsung:

You tell me, "We understand that the battery of your phone is swollen.... As of now there are no known or reported issues regarding the same."

But right here, there are reported issues regarding the same:

-- Samsung Galaxy S3, S4 Batteries Swell; Company Offers Free Replacement - International Business Times

-- Galaxy S3 Customers Outraged Over Swollen Battery Problems - Patently Apple

-- Android Forums - View Single Post - Support Samsung Galaxy S3 mini short battery life. http://androidforums.com/6551394-post6.html

-- Mobile phone Samsung S3 mini swollen battery: potential risk of fire or explosion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzVOtZaeDLU

Why do you tell me, "there are no known or reported issues" about this? Do I need to take legal action in order for you to understand that this is a known and reported issue?

The easiest way to know if your battery is swollen is to but it on a flat ground and try to spin it form both sides. If it clearly spins it swollen. I don't believe that the battery can explode but it probably can leak some toxic stuff to your phone and damage you. I just wrote a long story with same username to another forum's thread and I am to lazy to write same type comment. I think mine is 24 post on the thread. Cause this is my first post I can't link it but it is on the Anroidcentral forums with name "Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini unexplicable Battery drain"
Hope this helped some one.
EDIT and while searching my new battery for my s3 mini I found two more threads about the same thing
