I have a SamSung Galaxy S 3 running Android 4.1.1
My Router is a Netgear Dualband WNDR3400

I have been having problems with my wifi connection going in and out constantly on my phone.

First thing I want to mention is that I have 3 PCs, a 360, and several Apple Devices connected alongside my Galaxy S3. My Galaxy S3 is the only device that gives me problems.

I have tried a solution posted here---> http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/566171-wifi-issues-disconnects-etc-fixed-me.html

Unfortunately this changes nothing as I can literally watch the connection go in and out on the debug menu and on the notification bar up top. The only constant is the IP Address which I have verified with the rest of my devices whether it is causing conflicts or not and it is NOT.

I have disabled the option to turn wifi off during sleep as well. I have reset the connection at the phone's end(deleted the network and readded it).

The solution I found was posted here --> http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...-s3-wifi-connection-problems.html#post5135368

This is the latest solution I have found to this problem and before I go and do this I would like confirmation from the community that it works.

My alternative solution, which I would need confirm also, is an upgrade. In Octoberish I am due for an upgrade and am looking at the Galaxy S4. However before I invest in such product one of the most important points would be is this problem still present in the Galaxy S4?

I personally do not experience any connection problems with my S3 and Netgear VMDG485 router. However, I do make sure that I connect to the 2.4 GHz channel wherever possible because I have the 5 GHz channel set to maximum performance so I would need to be fairly close to the router to maintain a connection on the 5 GHz channel.

What channel do you usually connect with?

Actually to be honest I think I am broadcasting both. I could have sworn I disabled the 5 ghz a couple of months back. Not everyday I am fussing with the router's GUI :).

How would I be able to ensure that only one of the bands is broadcasting?

I dont know if the GUI is the same for all Netgears but mine is similar to this ---> https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct...x6KXlDZFOngLOfZ681sf7cfQ&ust=1372609922284727

If you go into wireless settings there should be an option to enable or disable one of the bands. If the 5ghz band is enabled then it's probably broadcasting. Also, if it gives you the option to change the name of one of the bands, I would suggest changing the name of one of them so you can easily identify which is which.

I have noticed that the 5Ghz band doesn't like to travel as far or through walls as well as 2.4, so if your on the 5Ghz band, then that could possibly cause some issues.

Just checked my settings. 5ghz is actually turned off. only the 2.4 band is currently broadcasting. Now I noticed that inside the regular Wireless Settings(as opposed to Advanced where I was able to turn the radios on/off) I can broadcast on different channels. Could this have some kind of effect as well? Would I have to reconnect all my devices from scratch?

Currently the channel for the 2.4 ghz is set to auto.

Also before I forget, my room sits right on top of where the router is.
