Help Samsung Galaxy S6 Active won't update Android software

So I was hanging out with my girlfriend today and we were both on her phones, and she told me about how an update she got today for her Samsung Galaxy S5 added a whole bunch of new emojis to her default keyboard, and after seeing them, long story short, I finally realized that I've been running an out of date version of Android (version 5.1.1) while 6.0.1 has been out for some time. I tried updating it manually but that wouldn't do anything, it says its up to date. I have no idea why it won't update, is there anyway to manually force the update? Thank you!
