Help Samsung Galaxy SII Battery issues

The battery decreases even without using the phone!!! I have no open apps. I also turned off Bluetooth, Wifi and GPS and I left the phone away and then I notice every about 1 hour 1 percent of battery decreases!!!!! Does this also happen with iPhone even without using the iPhone? Does the battery decreases by itself?

Every smartphone will use battery, even when in idle mode. There are app's that have to be on 24/7, such as, clock, messaging, Android system, etc;

1% per hour drain, for a non rooted phone, under these circumstances, is about right.

If there was no battery drain whatsoever, your phone would cease to function. If you go to Applications > Running you will see which app's are running on your phone. Then if you select Menu you can see which app's are cached.

You could install BetterBatteryStats, free from the Play Store, to monitor your battery usage.

The short answer is yet. It is after all on Standby. 1% per hour is quite OK. I sometimes get 1% drop every 2 hours with data off. Should last 3 days plus just on standby. The only thing you can do is have a look at the battery statistics and see what is using the battery. Look under settings/About phone/battery usage.

IPhone can be much much worse... Colleague have IP4s. Last 6 hours max with minimal usage. Something probably wrong with that configuration / IOS. Don't worry so much. Enjoy the phone. Every smartphone user I know have to charge daily.

OK.
Why is IPad different?
I have noticed that iPad battery doesn't decrease when in idle mode?
I left the iPad since the last evening with 100% battery and when I woke up it is still 100%.

Also what do you mean by iPhone is much worse?
If you say that it lasted for 6 hours even with minimal usage. So how would it be worse since you said that Galaxy SII will last 2 hours if I play heavy duty games and about 3 hours when I play videos...

All laptops, iPads, etc; will consume a small amount of battery when in idle mode... they have to. Having said that... have you seen the difference in size between an iPad battery and a SGSII battery? A 10% drain on the SGSII would not even register on a big iPad battery.

So how would it be worse since you said that Galaxy SII will last 2 hours if I play heavy duty games and about 3 hours when I play videos...

I'm confused... who said the above in this thread?

Yes. Play heavy duty games, it might deplete the battery in 2 hours. Play movies, its about 3 hours.

Its a smartphone and it takes juice. For most people, its a daily charge. You can however check the battery consumption in the settings locations and see if On Screen time roughly corresponds to the Awake Time. That way at least you know there is no app keeping your phone from sleeping. A good way to make sure battery last longer is to off data line. Long press on power and select deactivate the data.

Cheers

Would have helped if you'd linked to Russell's quote earlier. ;)

Well, he's about right as he's talking about very intensive, CPU and graphic heavy tasks. Not being in idle mode as he mentioned with the iPhone, which has a smaller battery than the SGSII in any case, see here.

The bottom line is that the SGSII has a 1650mAh, see here, battery as compared to the iPads 2 batteries at 3.75v. See here.

You guys talking about me behind my back? :eviltongue:

You got to compare for the same usage. ON heavy usage, like playing HD games (Real Football, GTA) or heavy data usage games (zombie farm), the phone only last a few hours. Playing videos too, because the screen uses the most battery. In that sense, SGS2 last about as long as the IPhone, and that is just about right since SGS2 comes with a bigger screen with a bigger battery.

As for minimal usage, and we are talking about phone screen off and is mostly on standby, the drain is about 1% per hour. About 0.5% per hour if there is nothing on, like standby apps, alarm, data... etc. IN most cases the Iphone should be about the same.

I just mentioned my colleague because the IP4s have been reported to have issues with battery for quite a large percentage. Apple have been trying to update the IOS to take care of that, but it doesn't work for everyone.

As for IPad, you can't compare that when you see how large the battery is. And more importantly, it doesn't run on data line in most cases. That's a big drain right there.

If you are draining 1% per hour on Standby, its pretty ok and don't worry so much.

With the extended battery I only see a drop of 3% overnight (8 - 9 hours). I have wi-fi set to turn off when screen goes off, I keep data turned off unless im out somewhere and feel really bored and need to browse the net, things like GPS and Maps are off, email notification is set to manual check, I dont use a weather widgit because, well I can look outside :) and I dont use any battery saving apps.

Hello,
I have a 3G network now.
I want to ask a question.
What if I left the 3G network open and left my phone idle.
Will the 3G drain the battery or doesn't affect?

my phone was fine until i downloaded ics then i too had battery issues with it not lasting a day when i would come home and at worst be around 30% depending on how hard i'd hit it(or how bored at work i was ;-) )
after investigation i narrowed it down to a go locker theme id had for a while before my install of ics(bear rocket which i love if interested)after disabling this and using another go locker theme my phone is back to normal.i see on the comments page for this theme there are some others experiencing some battery issues with it which is a shame as its a great locker but it doesnt like ics for some reason

Please can anyone tell me where to get this battery widget?
That add a percentage on the real battery???

I notice 3G will drain battery about double on standby compared to no 3G. And if you have apps that requires data (sync, auto updates, emails), it can be worse still.

As for the widget, there are many in the google store. Just search in google store for "battery status in notification bar" or similar.

That is a custom ROM on a rooted phone which is the only way you can replace the stock battery icon in the status bar.
There are numerous apps though that will add an extra icon with percentage, but then you'll have two battery icons.

So, what is your advise to me Russell? Turn off 3G if I am not using it?
You mean this one Kibbster?

I just wanted to ask if there is a widget that replaces the original one with another one that has percentage on it.

My battery last a day with generally minimal to medium usage, so I can leave 3G on most of the time. But leaving 3G off when you are not using it, then it will make a lot of difference.... It really depends on you.
