Help Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1: .nomedia does not work

efranz

Lurker
I tried to limit the directories for media scan by using the ".nomedia" feature, but it does not work on the tablet. The feature works well on my HTC smartphone. (I use "super manager" for marking the nomedia directories for convenience). But the scope of media scan on the Galaxy tab is still the whole "sdcard" directory.

Does anyone have an idea on this issue?

Me too on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus!

First time I've had to deal with an Android fragmentation problem!

Anyone???

Figured it out. If the .nomedia isn't there from the beginning then it seems not to work. What I did was move the directory somewhere else (in my case, I moved the directory to the external memory) then waited a few seconds for it to scan for media. After that I just moved it back and after it scanned this time, it recognized the .nomedia file since the files where no longer showing up in the music player.

Good to know! Another trick I read about is to put media files that should not be scanned into a directory (folder) with a name that is hidden by default. On Linux-like systems, that is any name that starts with a period. E.g.,

.hidden
.randomname
.whatever
.music
