Samsung Galaxy Tablet Update

Newbie
Gotta check out the new Samsung Galaxy...

I have been waiting for this ever since the iPad hit the streets. The fact that this fully supports Flash, front facing camera and a few other cool tools gives the iPad some very serious competition.

If the media gives this one-third the coverage that it gave the iPad I would absolutely amazed. The media just bows at the Apple alter and for the luddite, you would think that Apple is the ONLY player in the game.

This is a SERIOUS little machine and I for one can't wait to get my hands on one. Waiting on price points, service provider plans, etc.
If anyone has any updates, please post 'em here.

go to www.samsung.com for details, specs and to sign-up for alerts.

Peace!

PS - No, I do not work for Samsung!

Interesting. There was a bit of negative press when the iPad was announced, not just about its name, but "What the heck is this thing for? We've got laptops and netbooks."

It appears the Apple folks foresaw a real market for these things.

I thought the same thing when I first saw the iPad. My next thought was to wonder when there would be an android tablet so I could get one of those.

The samsung tablet seems to be all that it's hyped up to be. I can hardly wait until it hits stores so I can get my hands on one!

I'm still waiting for them to announce a WiFi only version of the tablet. Don't need another 3G device... and I definitely don't need yet another data plan on my VZW Family plan.

Samsung needs to add back the calling feature to the US version that is available to European consumers. People do not want to pay for two data plans and it would be a lot more convenient to only carry around one device. Yes, it would look stupid to see people holding a seven inch device to their heads but if you’re already going to be carrying a tablet around, you could just pair it to a bluetooth device to make calls instead of carrying both a phone and a tablet. When you don't feel like carrying around a big device, all you'd have to do is pop out the SIM card and slide it into your smartphone. Unfortunately Verizon and Sprint customers wouldn't have the benefit of switching devices so easily.

I want this tablet but they have to say it will be upgraded to Gingerbread when it's released. That would be a deal breaker without saying. Anybody heard if it definitely will be? I don't see how it couldn't be but you never know with Google saying 2.2 wasn't for tablets and Samsung going ahead and releasing one.

I did hear that Samsung said that the Galaxy Tab was going to be upgradable to Gingerbread, I'm sure if you google it, there will be an article or two that says the same.

The one thing that is just killing me about the Galaxy Tab is the price, I mean $400 on contract, isn't there a carrier in Switzerland or some place that is going to offer it free with a contract?

Yeah I agree with that. They have to do something about the price and have a wifi only version!

I agree on the price....i think i read yesterday that vodafone in spain was offering at 199 euros (on contract 18mths) which yesterday was around $270 us....$250 is in the wheelhouse, i think.

if i didn't have an Epic 4G, i would think the Tab would be great. but, really, the Tab is just a larger screen version of the phone. i'd be more impressed if the tech hardware is different, like a dual-core processor or something.

plus, with a tablet, pulling data through 3G would be agonizingly unpleasant, and since there's no calling over 3G, then why bother (especially if one already owns a smartphone). most likely so that they can charge users for data plans.

personally, since i already own a smartphone, wifi only tablet version makes more sense. and, a tablet should have better specs than a smartphone, not just a bigger screen. i'll wait.
