Samsung galaxy tablet

I have the Samsung Galaxy Tablet. Should I be able to use the android messaging using my home wireless router? I have no 3g contract. The messaging is not working. Any ideas?
 
Welcome to AF. I'm pretty sure that messaging requires some type of cellular network. But you should be able to SMS with Google Voice over wifi I think
 
SMS messaging does use the cellular network. Check out Google Voice or Skype as alternatives...
