Root samsung galaxy (tmobile) sgh-t959v to straight talk

I'm trying to switch my brothers phone (Samsung galaxy sgh-t959v) from T-Mobile to straight talk. I know I need a different sum card and that straight talk offers T-Mobile compatible phone sum cards but what exactly do I need to do to switch it? Do I need to unlock anything, or change something? Or do I just pop in the sim and activate it? Thanks forthe help I can't find this anywhere
