Help Samsung Galxy Note 3 (EE) (UK) Update to Lollipop

Hi,

I own a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9005) which is on the EE network in the UK, currently the phone is running KitKat 4.4.2 but I wish to upgrade its Firmware to Lollipop.

I'm under the understanding Vodaphone are currently rolling out the latest Firmware to its customers but there has not been any news for EE customers, I've checked to see if there are OTA updates via the phone but there aren't any.

My question is, is it ok if I was to flash the Romanian firmware via ODIN to my phone and then change the phones language to Bristish? Is there anything with the Romanian firmware my UK EE phone might not agree with?

Or do you guys have any other ideas or sources that may help me in my quest to upgrade my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to Lollipop.

Many Thanks,
TheWelshOne

No, you can't use another region's fw on a branded phone. You will brick your device. EE are rolling out Lollipop. I know the S4 is receiving updates from EE but mine hasn't yet. May be worth checking out EE's forum about your device

Since when???

Provided the updated firmware is generic (unbranded, with no network-specific software added) then there should be no issues.... all EMEA firmwares include UK English as a language option, and the basebands are common across Europe. It will be missing EE's own apps obviously, but those are all user-installable.

Thank you.

Do you know where I might be able to find an applicable firmware update?

This is stuff I read on my travels plus the device would need to be unlocked? Have I misunderstood?

Any network lock is usually independent of the firmware, otherwise unlocking would be a simple matter of flashing a generic firmware.

I'm certainly no expert when it comes to the Note 4 though, so it's highly advisable to get confirmation from other users in the Galaxy Note 3 section.

EU version phones should all be same hardware, radios, etc. Not like North America or China, where you got GSM, UMTS, CDMA, EV-DO, TD-SCDMA, etc. and there's definite differences between various carrier Samsung Note 3s.
