Why do they need my name

I tried to initiate a call by using the buddy feature with my contacts, then pressing the call button. It started processing, with a loading circle going around. It seems to now be stuck in that loop, and the only foreseeable way to fix this is waiting for it to run out of battery. Is there a way to do a forced shutdown, like how you can hold down power button and home button for other mobile devices, or power button for computers?
