hello..i got the phone with galaxo 1.6.3.3. i updated it few months ago from 1.5..
i read the 15 pages thread about this gaosp but didnt get any conclusions..so i've got some noob questions..
1. whats the difference between a nighty and a beta (a nighty is something before the beta?)
2. is it worth updating to a new nighty or beta? if yes, then to which one?
3. is there a list of the things that dont work in those new versions?
4. the guide posted here is for updating to galaxo..is there a reliable one to gaosp?
5. which files are needed to update and where can i get them?
6. what do i need to back up before doing anything?
7. is there something that back ups everything..just in case i get into troubles...and how does it work?
im sure many ask the same questions, so it would help many people..
1. There were two betas before nightly builds were released. The latest version is the Beta 3. You have no reason to install a version released prior to the Beta 3.
2. Depends on your personal opinion. I'd say yes and I'm sure most people would agree but check number 3 before. Updating to Beta 3 that is.
3. There is a bug with the wifi, however if you put the wifi sleep policy on "never" you won't even notice it. Also bluetooth isn't working correctly, but I don't know the details as I never used it.
4. I updated
the guide so it includes how to update to GAOSP. But since you've got the custom recovery already, you should simply overwrite the rectools.tar.gz with the newest one, place the gaosp .zip file on your sd card along with the Gapps (Google apps) package, boot in recovery, do a nandroid backup, wipe, apply the gaosp.zip, fix package permissions and apply the gapps.zip
5. See number 4. The links should be in the guide.
6. You will lose your contacts, apps, settings and sms messages. If you have music, pictures, etc on the internal SD card, you will keep them.
7. In the recovery, you should do a Nandroid backup. It will back up pretty much everything except the stuff saved on the internal SD card if you put stuff there. However this stuff isn't deleted by wiping or by updating so there is no need to back it up in the first place. By doing a Nandroid restore, your phone will be back to its exact previous state with the apps, SMS, contacts, settings, homescreens, etc. If you want to keep this stuff after updating, you should synch your contacts with Google and use an application like Titanium backup for sms, apps and stuff like that. Never used it though.
I hope I answered most of your questions.
