Help Samsung Kies problem - No Current Firmware Version displayed

I have upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S to Gingerbread (2.3.3) through Kies. Besides, I have upgraded my Kies 2 to the latest version on Jun 25. I can connect my phone to Kies although it took more than 5 min to recognize my phone. My problems are:-

1. There is no current firmware version shown.
2. Only "Contact" is shown on the left under the phone. Usually, it should show other items, e.g., music, photo etc.
3. There only three tabs on the right. The tab for "Backup" disappears.

Setting aside that Kies is just generally buggy and difficult to use...

Actually, it's probably just Kies being buggy again. Reinstall Kies. If that doesn't work, sit tight and wait for the next Kies update. 2.3.4 isn't officially out yet.
