samsung kies problem

Just got a new android kit-kat phone by Samsung, but having trouble with getting the Kies software to work on my laptop. I wanted it for updates and to downloading photos and video. Can you guys help, please?

It loaded up just fine, but I get a "fatal error" message when clicking in the icon:

Cannot convert string 'pack://application:,,,/Kies.
Theme;Component/Images/basic/Button/btn_nor_left.png in attribute 'source'
Operation caused and invalid style ...
 
It would be best to email samsung with this, but it seems the installer you downloaded is corrupt. Try redownloading it from the Samsung website.
 
Thanks, but reading more about the Kies program it sounds just about worthless and even worse, more trouble than its worth, so going to use dropbox for file share between my devises.

And good choice, I mean Kies is worthwhile in some areas, but mostly just not that great/helpful.

Dropbox should be able to get everything done that you're looking for, either that or you could try out Google Drive :)
 
The only use I do have for Kies is for firmware updating. Using it is more reliable than over the air updates which often cause trouble.

Yep, I already have Dropbox on my laptop, so will be easy to use it to share files with my new android Samsung. Just have to come up with solution to find updates for the phone.

Your carrier should send you updates to your device directly from Samsung, of course, depending on your carrier will also depend on how timely these updates are.

That's the rub, couldn't even get Kies loaded, tried from several Samsung sites and onto 2 different laptops, one with Win7 and the other with XP, and same "fatal error" problem kept it from starting up. Wasted half a day trying to get Kies up and running. Will have to find another solution, certainly not going to try Kies again. It even left stuff behind after full uninstall ...

If so that is a really strange error and like one member above me said, you should probably get on Samsung support about that.
 
That was it, thank you kindly! I'm in Europe and tried it from the samsung UK site, which did not work, but your link to the US site did the trick and loaded up very quickly.

One more thing: error message, CDC serial - no driver found.

However, it did not seem to cause a problem, as I just backed up all data with USB cable and Kies worked just fine.
Thanks again for you help guys, using the US site for download was the solution.
