I'm pretty sure that it's safe to say that Samsung Kies does not work mostly on Samsung Galaxy Gio.
Probably 95% of the people that used it had issues/problems and the other 5% successfully updated their phone.
To me the alternate (kinda safe, if you know what your doing) method is to flash your phone with a Stock ROM --- which still updates your phone with the latest firmware.
