Samsung Kies

Not sure if it's just me but I think the Kies program is crap. I've been trying to get it to work normally. Some days it would work fine other times it would just freeze or take forever to upload...

The Kies desktop software runs horribly on my machine as well. VERY slow load times for the software, as well as slow transfer times.

I've found that the web-based Kies service, using the app from your phone, is actually much better, though I don't think it has all the same functionality.

EDIT: Running Vista 32-bit, by the way.

I installed Kies on my Windows 7 PC and it was a nightmare. My hardrive started shuttering and making all kinds of noises about every 30 seconds. Went into control panel and uninstalled Kies but the noise didn't stop until I uninstalled the Samsung driver, too.
After I uninstalled Kies, the next time I plugged the phone into my puter, it re-installed the generic Windows drivers and it sees my phone again so I can move files around manually.
I think DK is right about the web based version having a few less features, but it works pretty well and my hard drive is happy again.

I finally was able to get it to work now, and this software is 2009 edition. They need to update their stuff.

It seems OK, but it could be way better.

I never had an issue with it on my PC. I am running Windows 7 64 bit. The PC version definitely has more features.

Perhaps the PC version requires more RAM and a bit minute power. I'm running an Intel i7 quad core processor.

Tried on Mac. It does sync, although says firmware update needed but not supported???

Was able to move music easily. Pictures did transfer, but came up really screwed up, with multicolored stripes across all of them. So I used build-in Kies air app from the phone. Slower, but transferred pics perfectly.

Software copyright dates are misleading, and often do not reflect the updates that have been made to the software following the original program development date.

The latest version of the Kies PC program is v2.0.2.11071_128, and was released on August 1, 2011.

Note that Samsung does need to at least update the software regularly in order to support the most recent Samsung cell phone.

Not sure why anyone cares whether the desktop software works well. The web browser access works so incredibly well why bother?

1. I need to sync Microsoft Outlook - Kies Air does not do this

2. Kies PC provides extensive back up options. - I don't see backing up your phone and restoring as an option with Kies Air. For instance, the Kies PC program allows you to backup Preferences and ringtones and also all your email account information and settings. Once you restore the phone, the account info is placed back on your phone.

3. I find the interface easier and the video Tutorials well thought out to provide any answer for syncing on Kies PC.

4. Maybe it's me, but I see only download options for music and video, but I don't see any easy method for syncing these. In Kies PC, the syncing is done both ways: if you add music to your phone, it is synced with your computer and vice versa. I can't see any automatic syncing available with Kies Air. Is it?
