Help Samsung Mesmerize Battery Life??????

I've had the Samsung Mesmerize for about a year now, and I've noticed it has terrible battery life!!!!!! I recently updated to 2.3.4, in the hopes that this would help, but it hasn't! I've read where people should wipe their phone, or root it or something, but i've never done that, nor do I know how.
Please give some advice and tips how to get better battery life.

P.S. I allready know to use the back button instead of home, and to dim the display and turn off wifi and bluetooth etc......
 
Depending on the use of your phone, it may affect the battery life more than usual. For starts, when I had my Mesmerize, I disabled phone animations, dimmed the display, and made sure that any app I downloaded had to be active to use data.

Having the phone constantly sync facebook contacts, pictures, emails, etc. eats up the battery like a fat kid with a cupcake.

Rooting your phone doesn't take much, but if you're new to rooting and/or have never done it before, I would recommend researching it before even attempting.

As for system restores, you can either do a system wipe from Menu > Settings > Privacy > Factory Reset. This will completely wipe your phone (and SD card if you so choose) to out-of-box specifications (with the most recent OS of Android, so in your case, 2.3.4).

If this doesn't help you, then try taking the phone in to USCC for a battery swap. Its free, easy, and painless.

If that still doesn't solve the problem, try doing a phone swap with USCC. Typically, you'll get the replacement phone the next business day. This is free, too, but if you don't send back the faulty phone they will charge your account for the retail price of the phone.

Will the battery swap work? Is the problem within the battery I have right now?

And as far as the root, i've read that if you root it (somehow) there are roms or something that will fix lags, battery problems, etc......?????
 
Hoenstly, the Mesmerize operating on the Gingerbread OS is the best of the best for the Mesmerize right now. I haven't personally rooted my phone, but another member LaTuFu did and they explained to me how Gingerbread was just so amazing that they refused to root it. Mainly people root their devices for custom ROMs and the ability to remove bloatware.

The battery swap -should- work. Don't take my word on that, though. Give it a shot and see what happens.

I was attempting to explain that, but couldn't think of anyway to describe that situation.

I definitely agree with LaTuFu. Your battery could just be losing its charge ability.
 
what's your definition of horrible battery life? If it's around a day it's good. These are smartphones, if it's your first one they suck batteries. My old phone could good for a week between charges. 2 days and I'm doing fantastic.
 
Well, i recently got a battery swap from us cellular, which it helped wondrously for about a day, then it fell back into its old habits of only holding a charge for about 5 maybe 6 hours. So I ordered my a 3500 MAH extended battery from amazon, if this doesn't help I've been contemplating just upgrading to the motorola electrify.
 
Your battery life sounds about average for the Mez and a lot of smartphones.

Big display + fast CPU=huge current draw. 1500 mAh is not a lot of capacity for a screen as nice as what the Mez has.
 
well in theory doubling the capacity of your battery should double the life of your battery. The other thing you can do is clear your battery stats when fully charged. I'm not sure if that's part of the stock recovery though.

I'll have to find an unrooted phone and see.
 
3500 will certainly give you better battery life. More capacity=longer run time.

The trade off will be form factor. It will more than double the size of the battery. You'll have a big hump in the back of your phone.

I don't disagree with you, but some others may not want that trade-off. (Myself included).

I'm not far enough away from a charger for any extended period, most of the time, that I've really needed it.

Another alternative, (granted, for a little more money) is the spare battery and charger stand they make for the Mez/Fascinate. Retail is $50ish in USCC stores, but I would imagine it can be obtained cheaper elsewhere. Keeps a spare battery on charge. I've been tempted to do that for a while, but I'm so close to upgrading out of this phone I doubt I will ever do it.

I just recieved the 3500 mah battery today and its charging as we speak. And as far as im concerned, the bump in the back doesn't bother me because i prefer thick phones to slim ones. But how long should the first initial charge be? Up until it says 100% or for 24 hours......
 
Charge it full. May as well get it going off the bat. LiPos don't have "memory" issues the way some of the old NiCad batteries did, so you don't have to worry about that problem.
 
if it were me I would first do the USCC battery swap as its free its a win win situation. if your still not content then do the research, root your phone, download "system toolbox" from the market, follow the directions exactly to recalibrate your battery and see how that works for ya!!!!!

I'm all about root, if i wasnt i wouldn't be rockin android 4.0.1 ice cream sandwich! which is awesome!!!!
 
Another hit on battery life is your phone location during the day.
When Im at work I tend to be in areas with poor to no tower reception and my battery is down to 50%(or less) by noon. (Hence started using airplane mode when I'm heading to the basements)
Yet on the weekend at home I can have a battery level of 75% yet at 7pm.
So just saying, with ANY cell phone smart or otherwise, if it can't "see" a tower you are draining your battery because it's trying to search for one.
 
So i've had the extended battery for about 2 days now, and it seems to be doing extremely well. I can have it unplugged at 6 am and it lasts till about 12 pm. For me, that is way way way more than i've ever dreamed of. I have read on a different forum that the phone still thinks its a 1500 mah so it only charges to that capacity. So they said that you should leave it on the charger for about 2 extra hours. Is that correct.
And is there any way to re caliberate the battery so it displays the correct percentage left?

And about the rooting, it is something i have always wanted to try, but have been to scared to attempt. I understand most things, but i do not get the custom kernals and roms and etc......

seems like a lot of steps but once you've done it you see its an easy process once ya learn it.

before rooting though you should download the swupdater from us cellular so you can reflash to stock ( which is easy) if you need to for warranty reasons or whatever.

you can use the upgrade tool to flash 2.2.2 from nothing then to flash to 2.3.4. its not full proof but you start in one place and build oj from there.
 
also my logic tells me that if you root and recalibrate your battery it will read 3500mah like it ought to.

on another note from what I understand, a kernal determines how the software interacts with the hardware..... something to that effect.
