Help Samsung Mesmerize Battery Life??????

thank you so much!
but what exactly do you mean by flashing back to 2.2.2 from nothing.
i know i sound like a real newbie, but i don't quite understand rooting, thank ya

by that i meant if you soft brick your phone.
let me amend what i said earlier a lil...... its really alot less troublesome to just get the stock eh09 file from the mez developer thread and odin back to stock gingerbread.
i had to go back to stock today and its really just alot easier to use odin

OK, that makes a bit more sense. 8-)
But could you tell me exactly what advantages come from rooting? I've heard some people say you get better battery life, and someone else even said you can get all apps for free on the android market????
Thank you

ummmm all apps free...... NOPE..... i believe that i have heard that about i phone. there are many good reasons to root one of the best is TITANIUM BACKUP which is an amazing backup and restore and manipulate tool. you can get custom recoveries which have more options than the stock recovery. not to mention themes and roms which are basically customized operating systems. many advantages for root!!!!!

This discussion belongs in another thread over in the "all about root" section.

ColeMesmerize, there are a lot of advantages to rooting, but they are only advantages if you know how to use them and know what you are getting into.

One disadvantage of rooting (particularly if you go the ICS route, for the moment) is that the custom packages you'll be using will likely be "unfinished" products. One function or another (camera, GPS, SMS, whatever) may not work. The phone may be more glitchy than stock. Then again, it might not be.

Just understand that while it can be very cool and open up a lot of things on your phone, it can also turn it into a bit of a headache to operate, if you're not prepared to deal with it.

Read up on rooting as much as you can before trying it. Make sure its what you really want to do.

ok, thanks you guys for replying this much. 8-)
I don't think im gonna root because i really don't need this phone glitchier than it allready is. Plus, i don't want to constantly reinstall some kind of software or something.....just not my style. However, i do like the option do apply themes, but i guess i'll leave that to ADW Launcher.
Thank you loads LaTuFu and shemslocum.

well no, if you install this root you will be able to download and use apps that require root like titanium back up and antutu overclock.
to flash roms or root your going to either need to flash a custom recovery which you would flash with heimdall or odin. you can then flash root and/or custom (mesmerize specific) (and some fascinate) roms like ics. or you can use ODIN or heimdall to flash roms. its sounds complicated but once you have done it a couple times its easy.most roms have a rooted kernal so you dont have to root first, just wipe and flash from cwm recovery.

I always hated my Mez's battery life. I am a contractor and it never seemed to last the day before i was looking for my charger. I thought about upgrading phones but i need more reward points before I can get a good deal. So i ended up looking up ways to extend battery life. Long story short...considering a mesmerize is now a mid-grade smartphone and soon it will be on the back of the shelves I decided to fool around with custom Roms(for battery life more than looks). I read up on everything before i tried it. I can say for me it was a good thing. Ive had my share of successful Rom installs and found a few that have increased my battery life 3x over. They have come a long way with Android OS(Operating Systems). The better your OS functions and the more control you have on what your phone is doing..the better the battery life. Anyone that does try a custom Rom to increase i suggest these two:

Awesome Sauce EH09 Mes/SC Touchwiz - RootzWiki
Super super stable. Some very nice features. Awesome battery life.

[ROM][ICS][IML74K] teamhacksung's ICS Port for Fascinate (BUILD 2) - RootzWiki for-fascinate-build-2/
This is a fascinate build ICS rom but it works for mesmerize too. Ive been using this particular one on my mez for a few days now. It is reliable enough now to be my daily driver(means i trust it enough to use it for day to day functions) The battery life on this is amazing as well. I forget to mention its ICS!!!

~Battery problem solved. In love with my Mesmerize again. Yes.

to cowboy....
could you give a detailed set of instructions on how to go about this rooting thing....and how to flash the rom. I've read up on everything.....but i don't completely understand. thank you

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE! that being said I am not to thank for any of these files I just gathered them up for ya.

first step: downloads
Odin- Odin3 v1.83.exe
cwm4- http://attachments.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=657960&d=1310959789
us cellular USB drivers for mesmerize- http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...G_ID=0&AT_ID=343427&PROD_SUB_ID=0&PROD_ID=690

1) on your phone go to- settings/applications/development/ enable USB debugging

2)OK now install Odin on your computer.
3)install USB drivers for mesmerize
4)open Odin
5) hit the PDA button and search for your cwm4 fixed for cm7 file. DO NOT USE THE PHONE BUTTON IN ODIN!!!
6) make sure that repartition IS NOT checked!
7) shut down your phone and pull the battery and the SD card (I never pull the sd card but your supposed to) out.
8)plug the USB cable that came with your phone into your computer.
9)plug the USB cable into your phone and hold down the volume down button until the yellow download screen appears. (about 5-10 seconds).
10) in the upper left side of the screen in Odin there should appear a yellow block that says [com2] (or com 4 or 5 etc. this means that Odin sees your phone.
11) now that everything is ready its time to hit the start button. Odin will show you the progress as you go. after a minute Odin will say RESET, just leave your phone alone until Odin says PASS.
12) OK Odin "passed", now put your SD card and battery back in your phone and do 3button boot into recovery. (hold volume up and down and power all simultaneously until the SAMSUNG splash screen appears then release.
you now have cwm4 and are 1 step closer to root and custom rooms. do this then check back into the forum and we will help with the rest :)

in case of emergency-
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/3395-samsung-mesmerize-uscc-official-gingerbread-stock-rom-eh09/

1) open Odin
2)check repartition
3) PDA button, locate the stock gingerbread file, select it.
4)PIT button, locate the stock PIT file, select it.
5)shut down phone, remove battery and SD card
6)plug USB into the phone and hold down volume down until yellow download screen appears.
7)check that Odin sees your phone and hit the start button and don't touch the phone till Odin says PASS!!!
you are now back to stock just as it was when you bought it! :)

using Odin is a little scary the first couple times. just use it as directed and don't experiment with it. it is actually leaked software from us cellular or samsung (not sure which, I forget). anyway there are no available guides for it at least not that I have been able to find. anyway just be brave and you can have android 4.0.3 and you will love your phone more than ever!
