samsung mesmerize galaxy s 2.2 update

Officially the 2.2 update has not been released. However, there is a leaked version of 2.2 or you could root if you want.
The 2.2 is supposed to be out this month.

Rooting gives you root level access to your phone. It allows you to customize the phone well beyond what Samsung and USCC allow on the "stock" level.

If you have never done it, I would suggest spending some time reading about it.

Wait for the official update (at this point, if they hold to their "announced" target, it will be out in the next 2 weeks) and if you decide you still want to root, then you can do it whenever you like.
 
I am waiting until the update before rooting. I figure that as this rate it will be 2020 before they release 2.3, so I might as well root it on 2.2. I am not doing the leaked version because I can't afford to be without my phone since I use it for business (I run a multimedia empire and I am in contract negotiations at them moment)

The 2.2 update is scheduled for September of this year.
