Help Samsung mesmerize touchscreen not working

i recently bought a brand new samsung mesmerize off craigslist. I had tested the phone prior to my purchase and it worked perfectly fine. It was a gift to my girlfriend and it had worked perfectly. But later on the screen stopped working and when it did work the phone would go bizarre and do things on its own. I've tried taking out the battery or even hard resetting. But nothing had worked. Does anyone else have this issue? Would US Cellular replace the phone?

You bought a "brand new" phone from Craigslist. You have no idea what its history is prior to purchase. Neither does US Cellular.

Had you purchased it from them directly, brand new, you would be covered under the Belief Project. I highly doubt they'll cover it since you bought it from Craigslist.

Tough way to learn the "buyer beware" lesson.

If you have insurance they will. If you go in there and tell them you bought it off craigslist they will not. I have found that buying used equipment in order to save a buck usually doesn't work out in the end. As the old Chinese proverb goes, "cheap can be expensive".

Sounds like a shock or water damage issue. Does the phone have any nicks or chips on it? Check the battery: there is a small white square with red X's on it... are those X's blurred, even the slightest bit? In the battery compartment you will see the same type of square with X's... are those X's blurred? If they are, the phone has water damage. If there are nicks, the phone very easily could have been dropped.
The phone has a 1-year warranty on it that protects the original purchaser from manufacturer's defects. Unfortunately, the warranty is voided if the phone changes ownership. So U.S. Cellular cannot replace the phone or send it back to the manufacturer for repair. However, a large U.S. Cellular Retail (not agent) location may have a service technician there who can flash the OS back onto the phone. Most retail locations don't have this capability, so I'd call to check if they do. That may be your only shot at saving your phone.

I would try a master reset.

Power the phone off. Now hold both the volume up and volume down buttons at the same time and push the power button until it lights up "Samsung". Use the volume up/down buttons to move the cursor to master reset. Use the Home key to select reset.

Not promising it will work, but it is worth a shot. I have seen a few do weird stuff and just need a master reset.
