Samsung Pay

I did it this morning. EZ. Samsung Pay on Verizon Note 5 accepted Delta Air AMEX and US Bank Visa. Would NOT accept PNC debit card with VISA logo. ISSUE: I prefer using swipe password to unlock my phone. Am I doing something wrong? With Samsung Pay it SEEMS it forces fingerprint unlock as ONLY way I can unlock my entire phone; not just using Samsung Pay. It did ask for a Samsung ID unlock code which I never setup other than USUAL screen unlock backup password. It would not let me setup a Samsung unlock ID. Am I missing something?

Oops ... I'm all set. Previouly skipped the Samsung ID step in my excitement. Nowe I don't have to use the fingerprint ID. YAY!

Was super excited to FINALLY get Sammy Pay on Verizon for my Note 5. I was not aware that SP only works with cards from Chase, BofA and 1 or 2 others. A HUGE number of banks including all of my card issuers aren't accepted. What a bummer. Android Pay is a no-go in my area, hardly any store is set up for it. Sammy Pay would've been the godsend that lets me keep my stupid debit and credit cards in the drawer at home...and get a sexy slim case for Note instead of the portfolio thing I've been lugging around since Note II.

I feel your pain...

Here in the grasslands of Indian Territory, we have "almost" seen the light of the "new wave of NFC"

Walgreen's and Home Depot, and McDonald's have the new NFC Point of Sale terminals ( I avoided 'POS' wrong connotation here )

I installed Android Pay two days ago, and I noted that it brought in my Google Wallet info from a year ago. I had to update the expiration date and CVC numbers... but it sent me an email and told me that I now have a new "virtual CC number" that cannot be hacked and any of my HIPPA info be released.

They told me that I can use it anywhere now where there is a NFC terminal regardless of whether it was originally designed for Apple, google wallet, or the Briar Patch Kids.... they will accept the CC numbers, convert them to the Virtual Number, and then they will do a bank transfer against my registered CC/Debit card with my Credit Union which does not support the POS terminals at all.

so, I see it as a Win Win situation. I can now just bump my phone at these POS terminals, enter my 4 digit pincode, and be on my way.

I predict, that within 24 months, 99% of all POS terminals will have NFC.
US Bank Corp has put a deadline on accepting any CC transactions after 12/31/2016 UNLESS it comes from a NFC equipped terminal.

I have a CHASE debit card also, it already has a NFC chip in it. found that out just 3 days ago at Home Depot because they have just installed the new NFC POS terminals. I swiped the card just like I did last month, got a message "Please insert card into bottom of terminal, Leave it there until transaction is completed".... hmmmm, inserted the debit card, and a new screen came up that I have not seen before... followed what it wanted, and was on my way...

now that Bank Corp has drawn a line in the sand, the other major CC companies will be forced to do the same. If they don't they will loose business.

for me, this is really a good thing..... why??

Because for me to get my CC card out, involves unwrapping 3 rubber bands from my wallet, pulling the card out, doing the swipe routine, replacing the CC card in my wallet, wrapping the 3 rubber bands around the wallet again....
Why 3 rubber bands? 1 is for the left side of the wallet to keep the cards in that pocket.
2nd is for the right side pocket to keep cards in that pocket.
3rd one is around the completely folded up wallet, to keep it from being pulled from my pants pocket by a "PickPocket Thief".

yep, I have been using this very secure security method now for over 30 years.... and I don't give a damn how irritated anyone is at the cash register. It is my wallet, and they can just stand there until it is safe again.

. so, if I can just bump my smartphone against a NFC POS terminal and enter 4 digits and get a sales receipt...
I see that as a big Win...

Does anyone know if there is any way to request Samsung add banks and cards? Or should I ask the bank? I am with a smaller credit union, and I fear it would take forever to get added, if at all.

I was a bit discouraged by Samsung Pay after trying unsuccessfully to use it at a couple different places yesterday. Today I finally was able to use it at a small local market. Cool! ...when it works. Guess I'll have to keep the physical cards handy for now.

Now when I try to use Samsung Pay it displays this message: "Temporarily unavailable , connect to a wifi or mobile network to use this card".

I found this: "Samsung Pay requires an active internet connection when adding or removing a payment card and to download transaction history. You can connect via a Wi-Fi® network or using your mobile data connection. However, when you are using Samsung Pay to make a purchase, no internet connection is needed."

So, I've been able to use Samsung Pay exactly once. Bugger!

I just created my SP account. So how does it work...your at the register and the cashier asks credit or debit. I just say debit and open the app and hover it over the terminal sensor and thats it?

Basically... it's really easy!

Any way to stop every charge on your card (it's on Samsung Pay, but not charged off it) from notifying and showing up on the app.?

Unfortunately Samsung told me PAY doesn't work for the international version, which is the one I have.
Might not be available for international versions, only for the US specific ones that carriers supply possibly.

We got Samsung Pay in China, but it's only available for the China specific versions, nothing imported. But then only a few select places accept it, usually the larger, expensive department stores and malls from what I've seen. Same with Apple Pay. Everyone else uses Tenpay or Alipay, which works on pretty much anything, doesn't require NFC, and doesn't even require the store, restaurant, taxi, or whatever to have an EPOS terminal.

Yeah so I would just have to settle for Google pay or android pay. I was really looking forward to using the Samsung version though. Sucks

Open the app...
In the upper right corner select MORE -->Settings-->Notifications and turn off Card Notifications.
