Samsung S (I9000) Specs

Same as some of you i have dropped my birthday wish from HTC Desire for Samsung Galaxy S..
I dont remember beeing so excited waiting for any other handset (bit deviation i know)..
Only unclear spec for me is amount of RAM in it..
Do any of you SGS freaks (like me) have any confirmed info about that..?
Thanks..

Oh man...just imagine if the Envo 4G has a Super AMOLED screen!!! The phone would be unstoppable!! lol...and some more memory...One thing I like about the Galaxy S is the memory selection of 8gb or 16gb...ALL phones should have more memory then...less than 1gb that most Android phones seem to have :(

Might want to get your facts straight, the 8 and 16GB are internal storage, it doesn't mean the ability to store all the apps and use up all 8 or 16GB. As 2.1 and older OS, the actual ROM size is only 512mb for storing apps, unless Samsung is dedicating all 8GB or partial of that as ROM, the maximum storage space will still be 512MB. Just like the Droid Incredible, 8Gb of internal storage and HTC changed the ROM allocation and bumped it up from 512 to 768 to allow more app storage space. The big drawback with internal storage though, as far as 2.1 and older OS is concern, most apps won't even see the internal storage since it will directly seek SD card memory. Apps such as Act 1 player, TuneWiki won't recognize any files outside of SD card. This might be a HTC issue but might be something to keep in mind as that could be a problem for Samsung as well.

Yes, I know that now :p As you noticed that post was old....didn't realized that when I wrote that post 2 months ago. But thanks for clarifying that up :D

Has anyone heard any further information whether or not the i9000 will still have Hummingbird?
Recent online comments indicate Samsung may have dropped Hummingbird in favor of Snapdragon..... Although with Samsung themselves still to publish the i9000 on their web site it is hard to believe one or the other.

It will be Hummingbird and will always be, if they switch to Snapdragon they would be shooting their own foot, Snapdragon in a sense is more expensive and significantly slower compared to samsungs own A8

I agree on all accounts and could go a lot further in what you say.
Unfortunately as in all things Internet sourced there will always be a depth of uncertainty....... especially when the main developer still has not published any online material or sellers still await the 'Final Fact Sheets'.

Yeah but if you think about it, if they will use the Snap Dragon they would have to pay a more expensive price compared to their own A8 processor and the snap dragon performs slower and uses more energy. In the end it will cost samsung to get a lower performance chip that is a battery hog at the same time.

Again agree wholeheartedly.... Hummingbird is a different fella completely.

There's a good read on the two here.

I'll just feel a whole lot comfortable when Samsung 'finally' go to print with a detailed and final spec-sheet. :)

Well the guys in Samsung Philippines ( Marketing , Internal ) seem to be hinting that the specs we see now are final, aside from the RAM size.

Getting a bit nervous over this, quite a lot of mis information and no information as yet seemingly coming from Samsung. One website suggests there is no pinch to zoom in the web browser (despite videos to the contrary), only 256 Meg of RAM, but a 2 Gig ROM??

It apparently even has a speaker that's worse than the HTC Desire!!!!!!

Im currently using a Nokia 5800 and checked the ratings of the loud speaker on the 5800 and Galaxy S, aside from the voice volume during calls theres barely any difference at all in ringtones and music playing. I dont use my loud speaker on the phone so its not a deal breaker for me.

the 5800 is rated at 68db while the samsung is at 66.6db, altho i do understand that every +3db means twice the power.

look what i've found;

"Finally come to official data Samsung Galaxy S! One of the information was an unconfirmed amount of RAM. Finally, we can read and see that the Galaxy S 512MB of RAM! All fans of this terminal can then rest easy."

"As we can see the first image and also confirmed by data sheet, the ram is very abundant. This is because the interface is cumbersome and very elaborate and already employs a lot of his ram (we see that it has 120 MB free on closing all applications). Definitely clean rom with no special interfaces free RAM will be very similar to that found on the Nexus One. Despite this, with over 100 MB of free RAM Android has no problem multitasking and slowdowns."

if http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9000_galaxy_s-review-478.php was right, i wouldnt have bought the Galaxy S... Looks like they have written a wrong review ;)
