Help Samsung S4 Screen Problems

mimmo

Lurker
Hello, everybody!
First of all I would like to say what a great forum this is!! I am a newbie, so please be kind!:) Okay, my wife very briefly sat on her S4. It powers up/down with no probs. The sounds work fine while doing so. The menu/back/indicator light/keys all work. The screen is not cracked at all. There are no external or internal breaks or cracks either, and nothing is loose as I have checked this also. Please could someone help as to some indication as to what the problem might be. Although I do know it is difficult to judge without physically seeing it. I've tried an array of things such as, powering up and down using the various keys but nothing works. I would really appreciate some feedback, however bad the news may be!! :)) Thank you in advance! :)

There seems to be no problem?
I'm thinking his screen does not light up, or show any signs of life?
@mimmo ? yes, no?
You do mention in the title, "Screen problems" but you don't exactly tell us what the issue with the screen is. ;)

If so, I'm wondering if booting into recovery, or download mode would yield any screen life?
Recovery mode:

(download mode would be using the volume "down" button instead) (to get out of download mode, simply pull the battery)

Hi guy's, yes sorry. Only the command keys light up (menu, back etc). The screen itself doesn't display anything. So, no apps/Samsung home screen etc. It's black and just stays that way......I have tried download mode and tried other ways to reboot using different techniques, but nothing seems to have worked so far. Yes, correct @Mikestony no signs of life. I've tried your link also and can feel that recovery mode works due to it vibrating, but the screen is still black. :( sorry for the inconvenience guys..... any other ideas would be much appreciated. :)

Sounds like physical damage to me. I've seen this happen many times, particularly with those that like to leave their phones in their back pocket a lot. Hope you have insurance, otherwise you're gonna have to start looking into repair options.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I was thinking the same. Again I know it's hard to tell without actually seeing the phone, but what could typically need to be replaced in these sort of cases? The digitizer maybe?

Have you looked at the mother board to see if a connector popped off. Could have happened if phone flexed enough.

Hi, Jfalls63. I have tried the teardown, but have not noticed anything wrong at all. I did check/disconnect and re connect some of the components (ie the main screen flex cable and antenna flex cable), but it still does not work. This is a nightmare!!! No signs of any visible damage, I'm tearing my hair out lol. Does anyone have any other ideas, or just an expensive trip to the cell engineer? Thanks guys! :)

Amazon has replacement screen assembly starting at $75. Most sites I have bought from don't export. Actually cheaper than I thought they would be.

Ok, thank you so much for your help! I'm guessing I have to swap the components over from the old model to the new? They look like they come with the basic frame.

Remove components from old assembly and install on new one.
