Samsung S7 screen keeps turning on randomly

My phone will be sitting on the table and the screen will just turn on by itself sometimes, no notifications, nothing! i have the wave to view screen function turned off and nothing is even waving in front of it.

help please!
 
KwlAznKid, I have been having the exact same issue. My wife has the S7 also, but has not been experiencing this issue. I hope that someone finds an answer for us!
 
this has happened to me quite a few times. i brought my s7 back to verizon within 14 days solely because of this reason and the associate gave me a new device. this is still happening and is really irritating. i have already factory reset this second phone and now my 14 days are up. i dont know what to do! he suggested i contact samsung but i dont want a refurbished phone! this is getting so annoying
 
My phone has been doing this as well and I read on another forum it's because we have it set to adaptive display, which may be the default? I changed the settings and so far I haven't seen a problem, but it's only been an hour or two.
 
On that note, how do I stop my screen from lighting up everytime I get a new text message? I can't seem to nail it down.
 
Mine has been doing this more and more over the last few days. More prevalent really with the last update, come to think of it.
 
Yeah, I was thinking that, too. I don't remember it doing that the first couple days I had it before the update. I'm wondering if it's connected to my faster battery drain. Phone not sleeping, maybe? And that's why it lights up when I get a text? Because my Android System shows anywhere from 44-55% under battery usage stats.
 
my adaptive display is not turned on so that's not the case for me at least, it is happening more and more, it's REALLY annoying
 
Yup, my S7 Edge does this from time to time too. Don't really bother me, but wouldn't mind knowing why it's doing it?
 
I had this same issue, maybe you have the "Easy Screen Turn On" on in the Dexterity and Interaction settings. It kinda works like the setting on the S4 when you wave your had over the phone to see the time.
 
Having same issues. I absolutely *LOVE* it when the screen randomly turns on at 3 in the morning while charging and blazes my room with light.

Mine will also randomly reboot itself at night too.
 
I've had my screen on a bit today (using it) and see a brief message saying something about an invalid JSON file. Maybe I have some app that's being weird?

I'm just browsing on Chrome when I see this, but sometimes other things and I still see it.

About random enough that I could see it waking the screen up if I dind't already have it on.
 
I've also had the exact same problem with the screen coming on, then going back off. I've done 2 things to my phone, I'm not sure which one fixed the problem if it's even fixed, but it hasn't done it since.
1. Start my phone in Safe Mode.
2. Go to Settings>Display and wallpaper >Always on display>turn this feature off.
 
My S7 Edge is doing the exact same thing. The screen randomly turns on without any notifications or messages.

Best feature of the phone. Kinda sucks to have to turn it off
 
Are all of you experiencing this issue on Verizon? based on my research it seems to be a Verizon specific issue. I disabled all the Verizon bloatware apps and haven't had it happen in over an hour so far..
 
I'm not sure about it being related to Vz apps - my wife and I have the same phone purchased at the same time and the problem does occur on my phone but not on hers. I'm sure it's just a bug with the S7 Edge that will, at some point, be corrected with a firmware update. And while it's a bit annoying, it's certainly not a major issue (at least not for me ;) ).
 
I am. I should de-crapify my phone a little more and see what happens.

But like ADG1 says, my wife doesn't have this problem either, that I'm aware of. And this is happening on phone #2 for me, so I'm inclined to believe it is app related.

I'm still getting the "invalid JSON file" message occasionally, but can't think of what app it might be?
 
Same issue here from the start of using the device mid March.

  • Verizon
  • Samsung S7 Edge

If you turn off the screen using the power button it will most likely turn back on shortly afterwards showing just the screen or random notifications that may be there.

Happens every time I click it into the dash holder in the truck. Screen turns on and shows the finding location notification once I start to drive. Then turns off.

Also randomly turns on at night, blazing the room how lovely.

After the recent software update I figured this bug would be fixed, but that's not the case. Hopefully it's solved I've had the S3, S4, S5 perviously and never had this happen.

I have been trying to figure out why the screen comes on once in a great while for no reason too.
I solved this by putting the phone face down on my bed stand.
