Samsung S7 screen keeps turning on randomly

I know what's causing it. Hidden notifications.

Mine did it a moment ago and I quickly checked WhatsApp, Gmail and snapchat. It was snapchat. I have notifications turned off for it, but I clearly still picks up that there's a notification coming through.

This might impact other apps. Are all of you users of snapchat? Best thing to do is whip through all your communication apps next time it happens. I will try and do some testing to confirm this.

It isn't necessarily one of these apps. But maybe a notification for something else. Even the silly game notifications etc. I think it is linked to this personally.

Mine continued to happen even in safe mode, so it is nothing that I installed. I turned off GMail syncing too and still no remedy. Very frustrating!

I've gone into snapchat settings and see that notifications are on including wake screen, despite being blocked by my Samsung settings. Will report back if it continues to occur with this off.

Does safe mode block the Samsung apps too? It may be wise to go through the notifications folder and turn off everything

If you have Verizon... I just got off of the phone with Verizon technical support and they told me that they are aware of the issue and that it's the Message+ app and that there is an update to the app in the works, but no release date yet. They recommended disabling message+ and using the Samsung messages app until the update to message+ is released.

Itspat303, thanks so much for posting! I've spent multiple hour-long calls with Verizon and no one on their end ever seemed to know what was causing the problem. So far, this has been the fix! Really appreciate you passing this along on the forum!

Raboom, you're welcome. It has also worked for me so far. I prefer message+ over samsung messages, but since it's disabled it doesn't show up in the Google play store as installed. You might not see the update when it comes out until message+ is enabled again. I'm not positive about that though.

Mine was doing this as well. Turned out to be location issues. Mainly weather timeline app.

Try turning location off and see if it continues. Then find what app keeps looking for location.

Mine was coming on every ten minutes or so. Now it's fine when I uninstalled that app.

So I tested the message+ app. I disabled it and didn't get the random screen turn on all day. I just enabled it and updated it to the 6.2.2 version. First time I hit the power button to lock the phone the screen did the random turn on. I then uninstalled the 6.2.2 update and haven't gotten the random turn on since. So with my conclusion it is the 6.2.2 update causing the issue, at least with my Verizon phone. So if you prefer the message+ app over the Samsung messages app you can do as I did and uninstall the 6.2.2 update until they release the 6.2.3 update.

Interesting. My wife's phone has started doing this too, or she hadn't noticed before . . .

But we dont' use message+, so I'll try disabling and see if that helps. :)

Just disabled Message + to find out, thanks for the info.

I do not use Message + so it was never set up, yet installed on the phone so still may be the issue.

I'm still using message+ without the latest update (6.2.2) and haven't had any issues. Hope it works for you by disabling it, it did for me.

Thanks itspat303! I have tried many hours to figure this out. I uninstalled Message+ to the factory version and then disabled it a couple of days ago..NO MORE RANDOM SCREEN TURN ONS! (:

You're welcome. I haven't seen the 6.2.3 update yet, but I've been using the factory version (6.2.1) before the 6.2.2 update and I haven't had any random screen turn ons. I prefer message+ over samsung messages.

So I contacted Verizon. Apparently there is a glitch with the Message+ app. That will be fixed with the next update. Until then you can switch to the regular text messaging. And then you have to go into your settings and disable the message+ app.

We know. Thank you. You can still use message+. Read the previous comments.

I was mistaken, I thought it was the 6.2.1 version that I was using. In fact it is the 6.1.3 version. I don't have any issues after uninstalling the 6.2.2 update. Still waiting on the 6.2.3 update.
