Samsung Stratoshpere - Viable Upgrade Candidate

Verizon Wireless launched the Samsung Stratosphere today. For those of us who have been holding out for a similarly spec'ed handset as the Ally, this may be the first device that fits the mold.

Very similar to the Ally in competitiveness when compared to other handsets in its generation - it is by comparison under specc'ed versus its rivals.

At 149.99 its not an attractive offering yet. But at 99 or 79? At $49 I wouldn't even think twice and would sprint to the nearest store and throw my wallet at the sales rep demanding a new phone.

Interested in what other community members think.

To me it seems like a perfect upgrade for how I use my phone. I currently use a Dinc as my primary phone, but I do miss the physical keyboard. The 1ghz processor is the same as on my Dinc, so the speed would be fine. It may be slight bigger than the Dinc, which would bother me a bit because i'm not a fan of bigger phones, but I may be able to overlook that just to have the keyboard back.

I'll have to pay attention to root\rom development to see if it catches on like the Ally and Dinc. Don't want a phone unless I can root it and get good ROMs for it.

Its 4g right? That gives it a leg up on a lot of competition, Screen specs look decent, only thing that jumps out at me is it is single core CPU. Not sure that makes it underspec'd compared to the competition, I would say its an upper midrange phone, and the only 4g Verizon with a physical keyboard. If I wanted a new phone I would value the 4g network over the spec advantages of say a droid3.

Stratosphere is a Fascinate with a QWERTY keyboard. Same 1ghz Hummingbird CPU and 128mb Dedicated GPU leaving 384mb of usable RAM. Not a bad phone if you ask me.
