Samsung vs. Apple trial: your take

Ahhh, the great debate continues. I have recently come back to Android after having used the iPhone 4s. Certainly there are things to like about iphone but it always did (and still does) bother me that so many people buy this phone just because it's an iPhone. It's a good phone to be sure but there are many good Android phones as well (Galaxy S3 to name one). I don't necessarily fault Apple for protecting it's turf but there is nothing out there that reminds me that much of an iPhone so that's just crazy. I prefer my S3 in almost every way over the iPhone. It's not that the iPhone is bad, just not nearly as wonderful as all its hype. As for apps, having zillion apps doesn't make you so much better than Android and it's million apps (figure of speech). I can get all the apps I want with Android. Those extra 1/2 a million apps don't faze me in the slightest. What this phone gives me are things I can't get from the iPhone so I'm good with it and Apple can keep resting on its laurels like RIM did and look how THAT turned out.

..but this may be the first real tablet design as we know it (conceived 1968): Dynabook - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was commenting more on the "look" that Apple claims they have created and can easily be confused with other brands' versions of that look.
 
Since I'm not to familiar with the iPhone... what can I do with my GS3 that an iPhone user can't do? Can I show off a feature that will make them say "Coooool"

Try the large screen. Just the other day, a few people thought the screen was pretty cool on my SGS3. These people have iPhones.
 
I think the TouchWiz software is a blatant attempt by Samsung to ripoff iOS's appearance, and it really, really pissed Apple off. In regards to hardware, touchscreen phones and PDAs have been around way longer than the iPhone, so Apple is pushing it by claiming they own the rights to that. A phone that has a touchscreen is going to more or less look similar, much like computers that are portable are going to look like laptops.

If they don't matter it's because Apple users don't know what they're missing, because Apple is that good at polishing what relatively little functionality they offer into a plus. (One-button mice were pushed as being simpler, users didn't know what they were missing with the right click, Apple eventually conceded to the advantages and copies with the ctrl-click contextual menu by around OS 8.)

I will never go to an iPhone because I'd know what I'm missing. For example I like to stream TV shows and films on my Androids from a variety of websites, much like I would on a PC, and its made possible with Flash support. I just could not get it to work on my mom's iPhone, and its because Apple is openly against Flash.

It's a privilege to be an Apple supplier, as usually their purchase orders will surpass all your other clients' combined, so Apple uses this as leverage in bullying companies.

Personally, I think Samsung will lose, if only because of the original GS1. It'd be near impossible to hang Samsung on trade dress if say they came out with the GS3 design (or Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus) first. Although there are some differences here and there, you can really see where they were pulling from Apple. Still, Samsung getting levied a big fine (though I suspect not nearly as high as the $2.5 billion which is just ridiculous) is all but apparent though not the real danger. The real danger is validating Apple's vague design patents; something that could plague the entire industry for a long time to come.
 
I suspect it would not exactly be that Samsung loses. There are several patents in question, and Samsung may "win" in having a few of them removed or found to be irrelevant. However they may lose in the hardware design department. However in my book, the GS1 looks far enough away from an iPhone.

A while back, before the iPhone 5 dropped, a user on here said it could be a "game changer". Well it dropped, who else can say unimpressed?

Apple has already added new Samsungs to suit.

I still say it's Apple's own fault. They persuaded people that only they (Apple) could make a decent device, not realizing that people are too lazy to read or check on brand. Plus the word usage of a lot of people is iwhatever for a device. If they want total recognition, they will have to stick the Apple logo where it can be seen at all times.

I really dislike all this trial business going on with patents, I really just want one of these to turn around and smack apple in the face so they stop suing everyone.
