Help Samsung won't power up

I assume my battery ran out in the night, because when I woke up this morning, I couldn't switch my phone on. Plugged it in to charge and left it for a while. but when I try to turn it on, it does the snazzy little S' logo animation, then stops. After that it vibrates every few minutes or so ( I assume because I had turned the phone to silent before I went to bed, so it is still in that mode.)

Every now and then I can get the battery logo, which shows that it is fully charged, and I've tried the old 'taking the battery out and replacing it' but no joy!

Any ideas anyone?? All help appreciated!!

thanks, ended up taking it back to store who said it was a software problem. Fingers crossed t seems all sorted now!
