Help Samsung's recommendation to close apps

I noticed it says in quick start manual that came with my phone:

"Use the Task Manager feature to end/shutdown background applications that are still running. These minimized applications can, over time, cause your device to "slow down".

Now I know from numerous posts on the forum and elsewhere that this isn't necessary, so I wonder why Samsung recommends it?

Also, is there any need to swipe away the apps from the recent app list other than to just clean it up?

Can anyone tell me how to transfer my Nokia E71 calendar to my Centura? MoboRobo transfers everything except my calendar. Any other software out there that can do this?

On my S3, swiping away an app does actually end it. I'm not sure if my Centura did the same but I can test that if no one chimes in. It may be a TouchWiz thing but I haven't checked. But I just tested it on my S3 on a few different apps and they do disappear from the task manager.

I'm a believer in being able to kill apps if you use memory hungry apps. Otherwise, once you get to a certain amount used, some things act up.. games can crash, browsers get painfully slow... and I have 2GB RAM. And I agree, Samsung must think something of it because even their TouchWiz comes with a task manager and even a one "click" clear memory button.

As for the E71, I had one, also (and miss it), and I recall reading about a program that can transfer your Nokia Ovi/Suite back ups to your Android phone, but I never got around to trying it. So that may help you in your search to include the Ovi Suite, or whatever name they use now, in your searches if you haven't already.
