Plus it was only a class 2 card.

Here's one from amazon that is much faster. Class6

The faster cards or cards that have higher rated transfer rates will be very very noticable when you have the card directly connected to your computer and you are trying to fill it up.

from a few minutes for the faster cards to 10+ min for slower ones.

Sure there are alot of little factors that determine the actual speed of your data transfer.
Like having a fast card reader, the speed of your computer, the amt of files that you are transferring and on and on.

Just remember its a general thing, the faster the card rating, the better chance you will see much faster trans rates.

from what has been posted here, the different "class" only really matters on upload speed. So, transferring 16 gigs from your computer to your card will take 3x longer with class 2 than class 6. However, this is usually a 1 time event as most of us plan to only upload data ONTO the card 1 time. From my understanding they have have the same read speed, so taking data from the card would be identical, or dependent on your reader.

This is exactly how misinformation starts.

I have about 7 different micro sd cards.

I use them all the time.

My class 6 cards transfer data from my computer to the card waaaaay faster..

Its not like its a placibo effect.

When i transfer on my old class 2 cards i have to copy the data and then wait and wait.

the opposite is true with my faster class 4 and class 6 cards.

More Speed Creates More Options

The SD Association is constantly innovating to ensure SD technology stays current with the needs of consumers and product manufacturers everywhere. All SD memory cards, in any size or memory capacity, come with different speed varieties designed to suit a myriad of uses. This flexibility allows developers to select just the right speed for the right device.

These new speeds are available in a new specification defining the minimum data transfer speeds for both SD/SDHC memory cards and SD/SDHC host products. This enhancement is easily recognized by three levels of Speed Class, class 2, 4 and 6. Speed Class 2 guarantees a minimum transfer speed of 2 mega bytes per second (MB/s), Speed Class 4 guarantees a minimum transfer speed of 4 MB/s and Speed Class 6 guarantees a minimum transfer speed of 6 MB/s.



With the new Speed Classes, the host product has the option to check the fragmented state of the card and immediately calculate the write speed in each part of the card. The host can then determine where best to write the data according to its speed requirement.
