Help Sat nav without data feed

Hi

I am going to north America on holiday soon and I want to use the google navigation on the phone. Will the navigation still work if I set the location via hotel Wi-Fi and just run the navigation via GPS. I have the data part of my phone contract disabled when the phone is outside of the UK.

You would need to download the maps at the hotel beforehand. I'm not positive myself how to do this. I'll Google it and get back to you.
 
I looked around a bit and it seems like you can just set up your navigation route at the hotel, and then hit the setting menu (three vertical dots) and there is an option to make it available offline right there. It may be something you want to test beforehand though.
 
The google maps give the option to precache a certain section and have them available offline, i think it should let you set the navigation using google at the wifi then work later without the data connection, should definitely test it beforehand.

The other way is that you can download a different maps application which has the ability for offline maps and navigation, there are lots of good apps available for north america, you will have to download the map data separately, its usually 100+mb, i use Nav Free World, its sufficient but i don't have any other choice because its the only one that gave me an offline map for India. :p
 
Just be aware that battery drains quickly by using gps.

Tried that, it needs subscription and needs to be setup via a pc, its a big mess.
Nav Free World was much much simpler, just install app, download the map and your set. The maps are not as good as google's but they get you there.

I see, it seems to be different for India.

For Navigon Europe I used just the phone in Play Store for paying and downloading the maps, no PC for setup necessary.
