save to sd

why in this day and age with the technology we have, aren't all apps saved straight to sd card? im no comp geek and have very knowledge on such matters but it just seems stupid to me

Can't save every app to the SD card. The system ones must remain on the internal memory, or else once you remove the SD card while the system is still running, you can kill the system.

For non-system apps, then that's a no-brainer. Of course we should be able to move them to the SD card. Fortunately, if you have Android 2.2 on your device, you can move MOST apps to the SD card. You can also do this in Android 2.1 if you are rooted, and have Apps2SD set up on the device.

Well, things always seem simple when you don't understand the details.

1. The memory in the SD card is significantly slower than the internal memory.
2. The SD card isn't immediately available on startup. Pay attention to your notification bar next time you power up or reboot. It takes a while before the SD card is ready and you receive the notification. Anything that is on the SD card during that time is inaccessible and there are certainly apps that need to run at startup.
3. The SD card isn't available when mounted to a PC. Any apps on it are unavailable as well.

Keep in mind that in all things: every decision is a compromise. There are always pros and cons. If you can't see the cons for a particular decision then you probably haven't looked hard enough. It really doesn't matter what "day and age" (why is this phrase so trendy now?) it is -- that will always be the case. There will always be limits.

i get it that the important systems ones need to be in the phone, its just that most of the fun ones i download aren't able to be moved to sd. then the internal memory is used up and i have to delete stuff when an upgrade is due.
i have tried the force apps to install to sd instructions from a thread but cant get it to work. im waiting for my computer friend to come round to show me.

if all apps can be saved to ds card, then you can use it to any phonesit is good idea for us, but no for the developers, lol
