Saving an old version of an app

I use Alarm Clock Extreme & it's awesome, works perfectly for me. It seems the app recently changed ownership & an update was published, there are a lot of unhappy users so I haven't updated it on my phone.

How can I save the version currently on my phone to either my SD card or to my PC, so that if I were ever to do a factory reset or change phones, I could re-install that version rather than whatever update is in the Play store?

I know there are other alarm apps & maybe there's another one that would work great for me, but for now I'd rather just keep what I've got but I don't know how to do it. What am I looking for? I know in Windows I'd want an .exe file, but in Android I don't know.

OK, so... I skimmed the info. for the first link - it sounds like this creates an .apk of the app? If so, is that kind of like an .exe?

And yeah, I did forget to mention I'm not rooted. My current phone is leased so I'm not even sure I could if I wanted to.

Btw I looked at both apps but Helium wanted me to do stuff on my pc & install drivers - so I looked at the other app & it was a fast & simple process, so that's the one I actually used.

The big difference between Helium and App Backup & Restore is that Helium uses extra magic to copy the application data (settings, game saves, etc) as well as the application itself, which requires using the developer debugging interface - hence the PC requirement. AB&R only pulls the APK file itself, so it doesn't need additional steps. :thumbsupdroid:
