Help saving contact to computer

I've tried searching the forum for this, but having found what I'm looking for. I would like to back up my "People" folder ( or contact, or phone list ) to my desktop WITHOUT syncing them to Outlook.
If I sync to Outlook it completely jumbles the existing data. Just as a separate, readable file. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Export to SD card as .csv file, and there are many free programs that read/edit .csv files...google search you should find many..
also HTC SYNC...

What I did:
Install MyPhoneExplorer on both PC and phone.
Open Outlook on PC and go to contacts. Create a new contact list, call it Vivid (or whatever you like)
Use MyPhoneExplorer to connect the phone to the PC.
Make sure when you sync the contacts, you select the Vivid contact list.
That way, you have them all in Outlook without messing up your regular contact list.
Ymmv, of course.

Took you suggestion, went to Google. 1st up --http://www.imf.org/external/help/csv.htm is an excellent explanation of CSV --from the International Monetary Fund , no less.
