Saving to internal SD - what's the point?

I've noticed that the S3 uses a built in 'SD card' as the internal storage. Is this a good idea? Apps assume this is ur external SD card and so back up to by default - but what's the point? I usually back up my apps and settings to the external card so I can reset my phone without worrying about deleting my settings etc - some apps don't provide the option to change the save location so ur forced to save locally.

Can't see any benefit in this, any ideas? Seems to be another thing Samsung overlooked on this 'great' phone, like no music player controls on lock screen. Grrrrr

I think the whole internal SD card is an ICS thing since they got rid of the full mass USB storage mode. It's funny about the music player controls. I use Poweramp which has lock screen controls, but I keep them off because they can be annoying.

Yeah I've started using winamp which has lock screen controls, but then you're missing out on the some features that the s3 only offers to the stock app - which is another gripe of mine - all these supposedly cool features that the s3 has don't work with anything other than Samsung apps....anyway.

So, what does everyone else do then, just backup stuff to the local sd card and hope you don't break ur phone?
