Scam Call Detection

Hi

I was keen to find an app that detects scam calls in Australia and notifies me when a call comes in.

Does anyone know of a useful app.

Hmm, that would be cool to find but identifying phone numbers for scam artists would be hard to determine. Scammers are popping up everyday and call from all kinds of numbers.
I don't know if they have this in Australia, but in the U.S. there is a "do not call" list you can be put on so that telemarketers won't bother you

In theory
Unfortunately, most of these type calls originate from call centers that have their own PBX, thus allowing them to set the outgoing number displayed to anything they want.

If Australia has something similar to NANP (North American Numbering Plan), you could eliminate some of the nuisance calls by blocking number series that do not comply with the number plan. For example, in the US:

• No 3-digit area code ends in "11"
• No 3-digit local exchange begins with "0" or "1"

Blocking apps like Whoscall will allow you to block specific numbers (not too useful unless you know they are legit) AWA number series ("starting with" or "containing").

The best thing we have in Australia is the governments Scam watch. http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/

In terms of phone apps I have downloaded Call blocker, Mr. Number and Caller ID. There are heaps of apps out there. Caller ID is good as it provides some extra statistical data.

I do want to find an app that summarises comments from the internet, from people who have posted a number that is fake or a scam. So when you receive an incoming call it can alert you that others (postings on the internet) have found this caller a scam.
