I have a Galaxy Tab 7 (first gen) that is giving me fits now, and I'm looking for some help. I don't use this tablet very often anymore, and for the most part it just sits on my nightstand, where I use it to occasionally surf the web, or to read with the Kindle app.
About a week ago, I started getting an error prompt that said I needed to reauthenticate to my Google services... that's fine, I understand the need to ensure security, however, this tablet would not reconnect. I kept getting an error that said my username and/or password were not correct. This is the same login that I use on all of my other devices and computers, without issue, so I know they are correct. I got the point where I figured that there was something out of whack with the system, and just did a Factory Reset on it, but that didn't help either.
No matter what I attempt to do in the Setup Wizard, it will not accept my username / password, and still gives me that same error message. I even went so far as to change the password, on the MyAccounts page in Google, authenticated that log in on other devices, yet this tablet is STILL telling me that my username and password don't match...
Has anyone else run across this issue? Is it possible that due to the age of the device, that Google is blocking it from setting up now? I doubt that this is the case, as I was able to use the embedded browser, navigate to google.com, and successfully sign in, but when I try to add my Gmail or my Google Account to the device, it stops me cold.
Would rooting this device help? What is the best root option for a device this old? I'm almost the point where I will take this thing out and go skeet shooting with it.
Thanks,
-Bill
