Screen Brightness SG2 White V Black

Has anyone else noticed a difference in the Auto screen brightness between the white Sg2 and the Black one ??

Ive already got the black and bought swmbo a white one yesterday but ive found in dim light the Auto screen brightness is different between the 2 models, on the White version the screen goes to the dimmest possible brightness which makes the screen not the easiest to read / focus on and could cause eye strain, where as the black version still has a little brightness added to make it more easier to see.

I thought that there may be a fault with the new phone so went back to the shop and showed them my phone against the white phone and they too saw the difference, they guy then got his phone out (black SG2) and put the white one in the middle and when the sensors were covered the 2 black phones dimmed to the same level and the white phone dimmed to a lower brightness. we then got the white display phone and another white SG2 and sure enough all the blacks dimmed to 1 level and all the whites dimmed to a lower level.

Does anyone know why this could be, all the base bands, and software versions are exactly the same, and all the brightness and screen display settings were set to the exact same too .

I noted the exact same problem when I bought the white SGS2 for my wife recently (I have the black one). I don't think it is so much that the white SGS2 went down 1 level, but it is that the brightness scale for the white one is much lower than the black. If you manually adjust the brightness, you will notice that in the lowest setting and highest setting, the black one is much brighter than the white one. Hence, both the black and white SGS2 dimmed to the same level, but the brightness is different for the same level.

And it is making it very frustrating to read off the white SGS2. I have done a workaround by hacking the framework-res.apk to set the white SGS2 to increase the brightness levels for every level. That helped but I wonder how many people can actually do that.

I just assume it's cause the sensor is surrounded by white, making it think everything is brighter than it is.

Nope...nothing to do with the sensors. I placed the 2 phones side by side and they register the same lux readings. The problem is with the brightness scale, ie white SGS2 has a much lower brightness scale than the black one.
