Root Screen Burning

Noticing the screen is burning the image of apps like facebook(or other apps that use a lot of white) to the screen,if the apps are used to long or if a particular background stays onscreen to long, like the fb navbar at top of app..its faint but you can see it..definitely getting rid of this device asap..

And I did call virgin mobile for a replacement seeing as I have only had this beast for about a month and a half.. As of 11/09/2014 they are now charging $25.00 replacement fee...warranty?? Don't matter. Have to still give them $25.oo to process a replacement order. So better take care of the device you have or shovel out more cash for a replacement. And what really takes the cake is their people lumping this BARELY mid range phone in with high tier/high end devices as a reason to "recoup" replacement costs. Hell I have owned pay-lo phones that were built better and performed better than this device does.

Uhhh "I have owned pay-lo phones that were built better and performed better than this device does", What pay-lo phones are you talking about. I have used almost all of virgin mobile phones under 130 (Pay-lo and Smartphone) and this phone is probably the best one I have used. You probably got defective phone. Plus it's obvious you aren't using one of these excellent kitkat ROMs with this phone.

Ditto. This phone is wicked fast and smooth with the right setup. "Barely mid-range"? What do you expect for the price? Its one of the highest performing devices in its class, and I've tested many similar priced phones extensively with/without mods. It beats every one if them. Sounds like you got a dud. It happens from time to time. Personally I'd have no problem shelling out $25 for another one, but I've got a spare from last years Black Friday sale so if this one goes I'm back up and running in minutes

I dont have any issues paying for a replacement. But this fee should actually be based on what they say it is. High-End,Top-Tier devices. The ZTE Awe is NOT a high end device nor a top-tier device. A good mid-range device. But it isnt an LTE enabled super-beast. The fee should reflect the device being used. Instead of a flat fee across the board for all of their devices. As for the screen ghosting/burning issue. It is an issue with the type of screen in the awe. Doesnt happen on all devices but can. Luckily for our device apps used for this issue do work. I used Screen Burn Repair to get rid of the facebook app ghosting. Took a few uses but worked. ZTE was of no help in the matter and nor was virgin mobile without their fee. I have purchased another device. The HTC Desire. But I intend on keeping this device active and in use for as long as it remains functional and useful.

On my device the status bar it self tends to burn in..also any app that may remain on screen for to long. But I have only experienced the issue with facebook and the status bar. Didnt even realize the status bar had burned in until I ran the screen burn repair app. I could see it then.

Oh and on the pay-lo comment. Yeah I actually have owned a few that were rock solid in use and never had issues with screen problems or sound quality. So the comparison was fair. Back before virgin mobile went all sprint and only had standard mobile phones. The company tended to pick pretty good devices. Going old school... The Slider,Switchback, among a few others I have owned...lol. No definitely not android but still good devices.

Hi everybody, I wished I'd have spotted this thread sooner, and been more vigilant in regard to the screen of my device. I've been using the Awe for about a week, and just noticed some ghost artifacts from the lockscreen icon. In general, I tend to keep the screen at minimum brightness, at most times, and set the time-out to the shortest duration. I think, though, that the device default configuration, or the rom specifically, may have been set to automatically flash on when notifications are received, though I haven't tested this empirically.
Regardless, I was surprised to see that the screen is burning-in so soon. For what it's worth, I thought that this the phenomena had gone the way of the CRT display.
While this is surprising and disappointing, I don't see much sense in sending it back -- paying another $25.00 to replace my $25.00 phone. It seems counterintuitive, but the new return policies are another topic, I guess. Has anybody had any measure of success in running Dead Pixel Detect and Fix or similar applications on the device?

Outside of this issue, I have been happy with the phone.

Hi Curtis, I ran the tool that you shared over night, and it improved the burned in ghost impressions significantly. Incidentally, when I got up this morning and checked on it, it was open to the configuration, despite my having programmed it to run infinitely, which I found odd. However, it did not leave an impression on the screen, so it must not have been on that screen for too long.

Following careful observation, it occurs to me that on the Cyanogenmod 11 Rom, the screen seems to turn on randomly, with no obvious means of disabling the feature. I don't mean to blow up the thread, but thought some others with the same issues might want to take heed.
