Screen Colors

I have a friend who owns the HTC One X and has pre ordered the HTC One.

He had VERY crappy attitude when I told him I would probably be getting the S4. He said...... " no way I would ever own a Samsung shit phone with the crappy screen colors".

I did not know enough about the screens to reply so kept quiet.

I owned the HTC One (wife has it now) and decided to go with the S3 because it was a better fit for me. We compare the 2 screens and honestly think the difference is nothing depending on what your looking at.

Any opinions about this. My friend obviously has his right to have an opinion but to be so partisan .........................................

Is the One X display LCD mate? Meaning its back-lit?
If thats right then its probably a matter of taste and the weather in your country.
Like, in a sunny place, an LCD display will be more visible but indoors, an LED display like on the s3 will show the dark colours (especialy black which isnt a colour but im gettin geeky here lol) much more accurately. Itl also use less power.
I dont wana fault the HTC displays because aparently theyre very good but if theyre LCD (vs LED) then noone can say which is better or worse :)

The S3 (and S4 I think) use an AMOLED (Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) screen that is basically a separate LED for each pixel. Unlike a back-lit screen (can be LED or fluorescent), when a pixel on an AMOLED is displaying black (0), it is turned completely off. This means that blacks on AMOLED show up as true black- you can really see the difference if you are in a dark room. AMOLED displays also tend to have saturated colors which some people like the look of and others don't- I think it is really owner preference on this one. Here's a link to a Wikipedia article on the subject:

Oh, and for the record, I think the S3 has a gorgeous screen and someone would have to be an idiot to say it is "crappy". ;)

Defo. i WISH my tv looked as good as the s3 display lol its stunning :)
Ive started to suffer "burn in" though which should probably be considered.
Ive had the phone 10 months, ive always had brightness set at under 25% but i do use the phone a LOT :)
