Help Screen darkens for no reason

Newbie
Auto brightness is on and the auto screen tone is off.

I will be using the phone when it will darken then after 30-60sec it will brighten back up again. I'm not moving so the light sensor shouldn't be getting changing values.

Anyone else have this issue or know what's going on?

Mine does that as well. I have auto brightness off. Kind of annoying as it makes my eyes bug out when reading in the dark.

Is this happening to you in the browser by chance? The browser has it's own auto brightness settings you can adjust.

It happens in most text heavy apss, if that makes any sense. I don't use the stock browser as I think it kinda sucks. Tapatalk is a big offender, as are my email apps. Never happens in the Kindle app though.

Same problem, happens when I am playing Angry Birds, reading a text or on the web.
Just seems to be random as it doesn't happen all the time.

I changed the auto brightness setting in the stock browser and it seems to have fixed the problem on my phone. I was having the exact same issue on and off of the web. I realize the browser brightness setting shouldn't matter, but I think it's a bug.

I've noticed it in the app I use the most, solitaire. :) It doesn't seem to have any brightness settings.

I thought the smart stay feature was for locking the screen but maybe it also deals with brightness?

Think I'll get an app that displays sensor data. I had an issue with my droid x where it would not register light changes correctly.
