Help Screen Doesn't work at all. Please help !

Lurker
I recently dropped my phone and smashed the Digitiser. It's 3 years old, it's the original Desire G7 A8181.

After dropping it all was well, other than the smashed digitiser.

I decided to replace the digitiser as the phone was fine other than this.

I received the digitiser and followed a guide to installing the new one, All seemed fine, as far as I was aware I was very careful to take it appart properly and put it together, I even inspected parts as I went to be sure I didn't break anything.

I put the phone back together with the new digitiser in place and turned the phone on for the AMOLED screen to not respond whatsoever. Doesn't even light up. I looked closely and could see a line swooping across the AMOLED screen and assumed it was a crack.

I assumed that at some point when installing the new screen I had bent and cracked the screen

SO I ordered a new screen.

It arived today, I put it together, installed it as correctly as I could and voila, nothing.

Screen is still black, no response however the digitiser works and so do all the buttons because I can answer calls by swiping down when it rings..

Any ideas? Or anyone know where to start diagnosing the problem? I'm dieing without this phone at the moment.....

Cheers!

As far as I remember, later on Desires haven't got AMOLED screens any more.
So you might got such LCD screen which doesn't work with your Desire's AMOLED control circuit.

Hi, thanks for the response. I bought the phone 3 years ago so I think it came with the AMOLED screen, however not sure if this one is actually LCD or amoled.

Can someone confirm that if the screen itslef is cracked it stops working completely, i.e stays black constantly.

Going by some research, I have found there are two screens:

One is a samsung (I would assume the AMOLED screen)

and the other is a Sony screen (Assume The standard LCD screen)

The one I replaced mine with that didn't work was the Sony one because the product number on it matched up, where as the oem one was Samsung.

Can anyone out of experience help me in finding out whether the LCD when cracked stops working all together? I would have thought it would light up and do the generic broken LCD thing in creating a pattern over the screen? But it just stays black? anyone have any idea?

I've started searching for a decent samsung replacement. Wish me luck !

Well if your original one was Samsung (AMOLED) it's not an LCD screen, so wouldn't necessarily behave like one. It's an array of LEDs. What would happen would I guess depend on exactly what was damaged - I don't know whether completely black would be highly likely or relatively unlikely. :(

I see, I thought the AMOLED meant LED, awesome. Well that's comforting to know because LCD screens do that thing..

So maybe LED screens just stop working?

Fingers crossed!

Update: all sorted.

for future reference for all the people searching in panic like me

The LED screen stops working all together when cracked in a certain way

The LCD screen doesn't work whatsoever in the AMOLED phone.

Sony = LCD Samsung = AMOLED

Cheers for the insight guys
