Help screen fading light and dark

my galaxy note 10.1 screen started fading light and then dark. tapping the screen doesn't make the brightness come back. is there a fix for this? thank you for your time.

Brightness set to auto?

In waht app does this happen? Browser has an option for that.

yes I have not messed with the brightness of the screen it the way it came. it doesn't matter if I'm reading my emails or if I'm on the Internet it will just fade dark and then come back to normal brightness..

I forgot to say that when I tap the screen I cannot get the brightness to come back it has to come back on its own.

Check settngs to auto adjust brightness under display and some settings for auto adjusting screen tone might be there too.

Mine has started fading out too during just about any use. Smart stay is on. Auto brightness is on. Brightness come back if I touch screen. Screen timeout set to 30 sec. Maybe Smart Stay is not real good at its job?? any ideas??
