Help Screen Flickering.

conaire

Lurker
So I haven't found any real answer to this problem anywhere yet, but when my phone brightness gets low (lowest 10% roughly), the screen starts to flicker. It's the lower third roughly, coinciding with where the keyboard would sit when holding the phone upright.

See the attached pictures for rough view.

So... Any ideas as to how I can fix this?

Its a hardware problem. Either a bad screen or a bad connection somewhere. Maybe someone can chime in to reveal which piece of hardware.

Impossible to say which hardware, there are several possible faults that would present this way.

Cold solder joints, perhaps in the wiring harness, that have degraded with time. Rather than allowing current flow, with insufficient power, one side builds a charge until it can punch through and complete the circuit.

Could be the beginning of a fault in the transistor control matrix - could be wearing out, threshold voltage or other parameter degrading, same end result - not passing low power.

Probably any number of other things.

I really doubt it's software - a factory data reset would confirm that, with the hassle of backup and restore of your stuff.

Keep it above the flickering level to avoid more rapid deterioration.

It looks like you have power saving enabled. While it shouldn't flicker, one of the features of power saving is lowering the screens refresh rate. You could try disabling that and see if it makes a difference.
