Screen goes black when entering VM passcode

This seems like a strange issue that hopefully has a simple answer that I have not found. When I call VM and it asks for my passcode, when I start punching in the numbers on my keypad the screen goes dark. I shake the phone and it wakes up and when I try to punch in the code the screen goes dark. The bizarre thing is that it does not always act this way, only sometimes. Right now I can't access my VM because the screen goes dark whenever I try to enter the passcode. Any ideas?

Mine did that too. I know I might be being superstitious but I noticed it happened when my hand went over the front facing camera. I keep my hand below the FFC and I have no problems. I know... it's strange. Maybe someone else has better or more technical answer.

My phone does this sometimes as well. When it happens, if I put the phone on speaker then I'm able to enter the password. It's strange.
