Since KitKat, when my phone call is done, my screen goes blank, not easily awakening, and I am unable to hang up. I have to depend on the person I was just speaking to, to end of the call.
Sounds more like coincidence and your proximity sensor went bad about the time you got the update. (But it could be a Kit Kat bug that's preventing the phone from reading the sensor.)
