Help Screen keeps resetting

[Screen keeps resetting]

A couple days ago my phone's screen started resetting while im using it. The reset is similarto locking/unlocking the screen with the power button. I have an unlock pattern set, but when the screen resets, it doesn't promt for the pattern. The reset always happens twice, back to back, and usually every 2 minutes. It causes games to pause, webpages to reload, netflix to rebuffer, the keyboard to hide, everything just as if I locked/unlocked the screen with the power button.

I have tried rebooting, starting in safe mode and clearing the app cache, but nothing worked. I hadn't installed any new apps prior to the problem, and as far as I know my phone didn't do a system update or anything like that.

Any help on how to fix this would be much appreciated, its getting extremely frustrating.

Let's start with what phone are you using, what Android version, and what exactly happened before this started, like an update, and do you have an SD card installed?

I have an HTC one M9. Android version 6.0, security patch level Oct 1 2016. I have, and have always had, an SD card. My service is US based, but I'm currently abroad in Canada. The first day I was here it was working properly. Writing this, I realize that the issue may have shown up when I activated Verizon's Travel Pass service and connected to the Canadian networks. I'll try turning on airplane mode and see if the problem persists. Other than that, I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with the phone. The most recent couple of apps I installed were days before the issue appeared.

If it persists in airplane mode, try running the phone without an SD card. It could be a failing card.

The problem does not appear to persist in airplane mode. It does persist while connected to the Canadian network with mobile data disabled.
