Help Screen keeps waking up.

The screen on my Galaxy tab 10.1 (2014) SM-P600 keeps waking up from sleep when I am not using it. This happens very often and it does not make any difference if it plugged in to the charger or not. The main drain on my battery is the screen and I cannot find a way to stop this. It is running Android 4.4.2
I'll be grateful for any advice.

Do you have it in a book folder case?
My case when closed makes my tab go to sleep and wakes up when the cover is moved or opened.
Is this possible in your case?
Do you have the accelerometer (SP) turned on? If the tab is moved may sense you are using it and turns on.

No I dont have a book folder case not sure about the accelerometer. I will check but it lights up when it is just sat on the table with nobody near it.
I did think it woke up when a notification arrived but that does not seem to be the case. Maybe it does it when it scans for wifi but that does not seem right.
I am using locale with different settings for different locations.
Thanks for your reply I will check the accelerometer thing.
