I use a protective case for my phone (i9000) that has a front-cover which opens and closes (similar to a flip note-book) What I would like is an app that unlocks the screen when the lid is opened, and locks/sets standby mode when the lid is closed. So to operate the phone, user would only have to open the lid, and not also press the standby button and slide over the screen. I believe the light sensor (at least on my phone) is on the font side, so it should not be too difficult to implement, in theory. (Detect light->screen on, Detect no light->screen off/standby)...
