Help Screen not working/ Mysterious liquid

Hello,

A couple of days ago the screen on my GT-19300 G3 began flickering and then died. When I took of the back cover I found liquid inside the back cover and on the battery. I don't think it's water because it seemed oily and the phone never got wet. The phone is not covered by warranty since it is an international phone bought in the US. I would like to try and repair it myself but I'm not sure where to start. My best guess is that the liquid was leaked from the LCD. Is this possible? What parts do I need to replace? Thank you.

Don't know where to start. It could not have leaked from the LCD as the S3 uses AMOLED not LCD. It could have come from the Battery if it got too hot.

I'll second that. The only possible component that could leak inside the phone is the battery with the likelihood that one or more of the cells has ruptured leading to a leak of electrolyte.

This can happen if the battery gets too hot and the pressure inside the cells causes the rupture.

Sorry to bring back something that's dead, however this happened to me yesterday morning!

&no it wasn't dropped in water, i plugged in my phone to charge it and it wouldn't charge, i proceeded to take the case off, and the inside of it was covered in a liquid, i take the cover off and the entire back of the phone and inside of the cover was covered in said liquid as well.

the liquid smelled like rubbing alcohol, it also completely evaporated within 5-10 mins.

luckily i have another samsung battery, and the phone appears to be working fine, however the battery that was in there, now feels "spongy" "squishy" slightly, unlike my other battery which feels rock hard.

phone seems to be fine, although it does feel slightly slower at times....

So do the batterys have liquid in them? I thought that was just car batterys... isnt it just layers of metal?
