Help Screen off during calls

I'm on my 2nd Rezound, now this one has some annoying issues! The main issue is during a call, the screen goes black. When I bring the phone back down to hang up, or use dial pad, it wont come back on. Soooo annoying. Yeah, you can use the power button to hang up, but that's not a fix. I assume the proximity sensor is bad. But, if you run the test, it works. No screen protector, screen is clean, blew air into phone, nothing! Verizon said they can send me another "refurb" which I don't want. When I demanded a NEW phone, they told me to contact HTC, it was their problem. I did, they want me to send it in for repair. No way. Any ideas? Settings, apps (none have worked so far), etc? Just would like my expensive phone to work like it should. Also read ICS update may have caused this??? Out of ideas and frustrated...

Here is a MOD that may help.

Had similar problems with proximity sensor, then realized i had a screensaver, even tho it was transparent. So I pulled the top of it down, cut a notch above the left tip of the verizon "V", and proximity sensor started behaving.

Update: sorry, just noticed you don't have a screen protector.

Had the same problem on two refurbished phones. It is not an uncommon problem, and reportedly, some of their other models have it, as well.

Some have said it is because the screen isn't properly seated up by the top of the phone, which was true on my first two refurbs. With the first one, I could push it down, and then the proximity sensor would work for awhile, until the screen popped back out again. On the second one, I could not push the screen back in, but didn't care to mess with it, so I sent it back immediately.

The 3rd one worked for me, even though the top of the screen is not flush with the frame on this one, either.
